UPDATE - 1st February 2012
Femund_race
Today the team made the joint decision to swap races, from Femundlopet to Pasvik Trail. The race program is now: Finnmarkslopet 500km race in March and Pasvik Trail 300km race in April. Following advice from the Doctor, this change will give Mel an extra month to recover from her back injury & gain the vital strength needed in the races.

Medivac_Mel
"Thankyou to the amazing Norwegian Emergency Services!" A small household accident caused Mel to colapse in agony with a prolapsed back injury. Unable to move & slipping in & out of conciousness, Tynset paramedics provided excellent emergency treatment & decided to scamble the airambulance, which flew a heavily sedated Mel to Lillehammer Hospital. Although she doesn't remember the Helicopter ride, Mel was grateful not to have to endure a 5 hour drive. After a few days in hospital she will be allowed home.

GB Team Mel Andrews' Training Base in Norway! Located in Fjellregionen (The Mountain Region), at 780m above sea level in the coldest part of Europe, surrounded by 1000-2000m mountains, sled trails are prepared so teams can run out of the kennel, directly into the mountains or onto the Femundlopet 600km trail system.

An early dump of snow ment Mel got to train the dogs by sled for her birthday. And to make it extra special, Mel's mum came along for the ride. "Best birthday ever!"

Finnmarkslopet_Europes_Longest_Dogsled_Race
Team Mel Andrews signs up for Finnmarkslopet 2012 - Europes longest sled dog race that takes place completely within the Arctic Circle.
And Femundløpet 2012! Of those registered there is a total of 11 different nationalities – Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Great Britain, Iceland, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and USA.

NEWS - June 2011 Mel_Andrews_Mountain_ClimbingMountain Climbing in Jotunheimen, Norway, June 2011. Mel start next season's fitness training by scrambling with the dogs up & down Norway's peaks, with Galdøpiggen in sight next month.

Summer training with the race team, May 2011. First outing with the 4 new dogs from Mats Petterson and the 6 yearlings trying out for this seasons race team. An awesome trip up the steep logging trail, with 12 dogs pulling 450kg, the run back down really tested the brakes.
